When dining out there are several factors which are vital to a healthy meal. Visible calorie counts, freshness of the food, and the cleanliness of a restaurant are three of the most important factors. Although as a consumer we don’t really know the nutrition facts of our meals, we do have the right to inquire about the cleanliness of a restaurant.
It does not seem very promising when you hear that restaurants were accounted for 41 % of food-borne disease outbreaks between the years 1990 and 2006. That’s quite a high number. So it should be for the sake of our own health that we take the time to inquire about the cleanliness of the place where we are dining. Most restaurants are required to place a health inspection report where it is visible to all consumers. As a patron, it is wise that you pay close attention to that report. Several inspection forms even post previous grades which allow you to get a complete picture of a restaurant’s attention to cleanliness. Several states are also trying to put restaurant health scores online. That way you can do your research before even leaving the house. Furthermore, there are several questions which you ask the manager in order to get an idea of the sanitation procedures. One of these questions is regarding sick leave. Inquire whether employees are allowed sick leave. If they are not, it means that ill employees are likely to show up for work and potentially spread the illness.
This is just one important factor of healthy dining. Being aware of the calorie counts is also crucial, especially for those of us who are trying to lose weight. Aside from a low fat diet, you can also try whey protein shakes, routine physical activity, and all natural diet pills.
