As we get older, many of us are wishing that the fountain of youth was in fact a reality. And if you doubt the power of the fountain of youth, then maybe you are wishing that someone out there has created a magic pill that will keep you forever young. Well, unfortunately neither one of these things exists. As a result, we have to rely upon our own smarts to prepare ourselves for a healthy and youthful future. So what are some of the ways that we can maintain our youthfulness without undergoing any medical procedures?
Well, the first step towards a youthful looking appearance is made possible through a healthy diet. When we feed our bodies a well balanced diet, especially one rich in fruit and vegetables, we are providing ourselves with phytochemicals. These phytochemicals improve our cognitive functions and prevent diseases. Along with a healthy diet, it is important to drink plenty of water. Water can help us clean our bodies of wastes, blood poisons and environmental toxins- all of which can speed up our aging process. It is also important to reduce stress levels. Elevated levels of stress accelerate the body’s aging process and destroy memory. As for outer appearance, some of the key skin damaging factors include sun exposure, smoking, drinking, and over exfoliating. Simply try to reduce the amount of time you spend in the sun, especially if you live in a tropical environment. Also remember to always wear sunscreen when going outdoors. Over exfoliating can also weaken the skin’s immunity as well as its appearance.
Strength training is yet another step towards a youthful looking body. After the age of 40 we start to lose our muscle and bone strength. By undergoing strength training we can rebuild lost muscle and bone strength. This is especially important for post menopausal women. Furthermore, exercise should be a part of our daily lives from youth to adulthood. It helps us feel better, sleep better, and maintain a healthy body. These are just a few steps towards a younger looking body and a livelier feeling mind.
